Gone

A SHOWING OF
BLOTTER ACID ART

Curated by Mark McCloud
A comprehensive historical survey of the most renowned and mind bending blotter acid art of the 1960s through 1990s. This exhibition features selected works from the world's largest colection of blotter acid art.

Thanks to the wonders of LSD, Julie Rico of Rico Gallery in Santa Monica says her newest exhibit is drawing curious crowds by the hundreds.

"It's a nice crowd, too, like a family, " Rico said. "I think it's because LSD is about letting go of your ego and realizing your connection to the planet."

The gallery's exhibit, "Gone," is Southern California's first look at what art collector and historian Mark McCloud deems the "world's largest exhibition of blotter acid art."

The artwork collected by McCloud ranges from the psychedelic to the mystical. Elaborate designs adorn more than 300 framed, perforated sheets of paper, some of which have been dipped in LSD. Over the decades, the blotters have been a a common means of distributing an selling the hallucinogenic drug.

"(The exhibit) is like a bad acid trip," said McCloud from his San Francisco home. "It jumps around a little, but basically it's in chronological order."

The popularity of the exhibit, which has been extended through September 21, is a sign that "Santa Monica is still flourishing," says McCloud, 44. "I bought sheets there and I'm still trying to buy more."
