MAIN STREET HOLIDAY PARTY EXTRAVAGANZA!

Saturday, Dec. 4

Main Street invites its friends, neighbors and visitors to join in its Party Extravaganza to celebrate the holidays, on Saturday, Dec. 4.

Over 30 businesses on Main Street will be having parties featuring holiday beverages, snacks, sweets, door prizes and more.

Most of the parties will be from 6pm to 9pm. (Check www.mainstreetsm.com for details.)

The traditional Main Street tree lighting festivities will begin at 6pm on the lawn of the California Heritage Museum (2612 Main, just south of Ocean Park Blvd.) and this year will feature The Samohi Choir and Santa Claus.

After the tree lighting Santa will lead a candlelight walk from the museum to Edgemar’s famous Shopping Cart holiday tree, where that tree will be lit, and there will be more entertainment from The Off Their Jingle Bell Rockers. Then the Rockers, the Samohi Choir and Santa will stroll the street caroling and entertaining at the parties.

The public will have a chance to win prizes by participating as Judges in the 8th Annual Main Street Holiday Decorations Contest; the judging ballot doubles as a raffle entry.

Ballots will be available at some stores and on the Main Street website (www.mainstreetsm.com) and will be available at the Tree Lighting ceremony.

Judging will begin 5pm Friday, Nov. 26 and ends at 9pm on Dec. 4.

There will also be a sidewalk sale at participating merchants on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 4 and 5, from 11am to 7pm.

The Main Street Holiday ’10 Event is produced by the Main Street Business Improvement Association and is sponsored in part by Edgemar, the Santa Monica Mirror, and the Santa Monica Daily Press.

THE 10TH ANNUAL MAIN STREET SUMMER SOULSTICE IS COMING!

Sunday, June 27th

Featuring over 20 bands on six stages the Annual Main Street Santa Monica Summer SOULstice celebrates its 10th Anniversary this Sunday on Main Street, Santa Monica.

And there’s the annual two-day Sidewalk Sale, a major component of the annual event, running on both Saturday and Sunday, June 26 and June 27, from 11am to 7pm.

It’s fun for the whole family, and everyone else!

Several tribute bands will return from previous years, and new contemporary music with diverse influences has been added to the festival.

Returning to perform are the popular tribute bands The Neil Deal (Neil Young tribute), Petty Theft (Tom Petty tribute), Dr. Wu (Steely Dan tribute), Highway 61 Revisited (Bob Dylan tribute), Southbound (Allman Brothers Band tribute), Woodstock, Heartless, and Stone Soul.

Also returning are bands offering a variety of music: The Bonedaddys, Helios Jive, The Paul Chesne Band, The Sunshine Brothers, The Golden West, Ena Vie, and Killing Cassanova.

New to the event: The Zack Crocker Project, City Fritter, The Brandon Ummel Band, Zat Baraka, Joey Lugassy, Greg Ellis, Donna Delory, and Lisbeth Scott.  And returning after a long absence: Jacqueline Fuentes.  DJ Drez with also perform.

Live music starts at 1pm and ends at 7pm.

Pebbles and Natural High Lifestyle (2400 Main) will host a Kids Activities Area with music, bubbles, face painting and hula hoops from 11am to 6pm on Sunday.

The Main Street Business Improvement Association in Santa Monica will produce their 10th Annual Summer SOULstice Celebration, Sunday, June 27, 11am to 7pm, on Main Street, Santa Monica, between Pico and southern border of the city.

The SOULstice is sponsored by Edgemar, O’Brien’s Irish Pub, Enterprise Fish Co., The World Café, Library Alehouse, Euphoria Loves RAWvolution, and The L.A Weekly, with generous support from The Daily Bruin, The Santa Monica Mirror, and Wildflour Pizza.

Activities will be in parking lots, courtyards and on select side streets. Many Main Street merchants will have in-store parties or be offering items on sale as part of the Sidewalk Sale.

Last Fridays Continues on Main Street

Bike Valet Added

Main Street merchants are busy getting set to produce their 2nd Last Fridays event this Friday when participating Main Street businesses will stay open late with special events and offers again.

The event began last month.

Participating stores and restaurants and their activities are listed on the Main Street website, www.mainstreetsm.com.

This month, and for the next few months, the City of Santa Monica will be running a Bike Valet in front of Library Alehouse, 2911 Main.  The valet is free and will be managed similarly to the one at the Main Street Farmers’ Market every Sunday.  The bike valet will operate from 5pm - 10pm.

Among the participants so far:   Infinity Wireless, Gioia, ZJ Boarding House, Rudy’s Barbershop, Lula Cucina, Finn McCool’s, Agabhumi, Fedora Primo, Paint:Lab, The Urban Craft Center, Enterprise Fish Co., Weego Home, Patricia Junes, Kafe K, La Dolce Vita, The Doves Studio, Natures Grooming & Boutique, Peet’s Coffee & Tea, and Animal Wellness Centers.

Some businesses are offering discounts, some are featuring artwork and live music, some are offering refreshments, some are doing all of the above, and more.

“This is an effort to build on the success of the first Last Friday in January, in an effort to increase business on Main Street, to create an awareness of the uniqueness of Main Street and the variety of stores and restaurants on the street, and to add some fun to an already enjoyable street,” said Gary Gordon, Executive Director of the Main Street Business Improvement Association.

Beginning Jan. 29, participating Main Street businesses will stay open late with special events and offers the last Friday of each month.

THE 9TH ANNUAL MAIN STREET SUMMER SOULSTICE IS COMING!

Sunday, June 28th

Featuring 20 bands on six stages and for the first time, a Circus show, the 9th Annual Main Street Santa Monica Summer SOULstice is coming to Main Street, Santa Monica.

Dancers from Hoopnotica, along with clowns, jugglers, stiltwalkers and more will entertain children of all ages with two shows during the day!

And there’s the annual two-day Sidewalk Sale, a major component of the annual event, running on both Saturday and Sunday, June 27 and June 28, from 11am to 7pm.

It’s fun for the whole family, and everyone else!

Playing for the first time will be Helios Jive (with Carlos Vera, Live Painter), The Bonedaddys, Stevie Starlight, The Paul Chesne Band, The Sunshine Brothers, Minibar, The Golden West, The Shore, Aras, Ena Vie, Killing Cassanova, Undercover Live, and from San Francisco, BLVD. Both Helios Jive and BLVD performed at Coachella 2009.

And DJ Steve Prior will provide the entertainment at Bay Ave.

Circus acts will include Hoopnotica, Ravyn, HoopTease, The StiltRockers, and a number of clowns and stiltwalkers and entertainers including Jesselynn Desmond, Ross Steeves, Tom Neelan, Bill Parks; and Antonio Gomez-Rubio, the Stiltwalker. The circus show at the First Federal parking lot is produced by Another Jaw Dropping Production.

Also for the kids, there’ll be a petting zoo, and Rockie the Clown, who will do facepainting and balloons will return for her 8th year!
