The Main Street Business Improvement Association (MSBIA), also knows as the Main Street Merchants Association, represents the businesses on Main Street in Santa Monica for the purpose of promoting and marketing the Main Street Business Improvement District (BID) as a vital, safe, unique place for shopping, dining, and cultural experiences in Santa Monica.

We are committed to building and nurturing partnerships with each other, our city government, and other businesses and neighborhood organizations to improve and enhance the quality of work and life in our community.

With roughly 400 members (business license holders) this non-profit corporation is managed by a Board of Directors elected by the general membership. An Executive Director, and Assistant Executive Director are employed by the Association, and work for the Board and its members. The Board makes policy; the Executive Director and Assistant ED are engaged in advising the board and carrying out policy, planning and executing events, solving merchant issues, and acting as a liaison to The City.

The Board meets once a month, currently on the 1st Wednesday at 10am at Lula Cocina Mexicana, located at 2720 Main Street. There are quarterly General Membership meetings, with one annual meeting for elections each year. Board members serve two-year terms, with half the board seats open for election each year: there are no term limits. Upcoming meeting dates can also be found on our calendar.

A liaison from the Convention & Visitors Bureau and a liaison from the Business Alliance also regularly attend Board meetings, as does a City staff person from the MSBIA liaison department, the Department of Economic Development.

Board members also may serve on committees. There are two standing committees: The Event Committee, and the Promotion & Marketing Committee. When planning either the Summer SOULstice event or the annual Holiday event, the Event Committee usually meets weekly. The Promotion & Marketing Committee meets every two weeks.
