He is a local Artist, and Interior Designer as well as a long-time Resident of Main street and the artist who created the world famous shopping cart tree at Edgemar, an Anual art installation for the last 25 years.

Hunter Hall

Board Executive Director

A progressive hospitality professional with experience in nightclubs, hotels, restaurants and special events, Hunter brings a wealth of information and insight into emerging trends and best practices for small businesses.

He now serves in the role of Executive Director of the Main Street Business Improvement Association in Santa Monica, acting as the chief lobbyist and advocate for all merchants on Main Street in Santa Monica and as a liaison to The City. In this role, he regularly negotiates issues affecting the interests of Main Street with City Council, City Staff, and community stakeholders as well as neighborhood groups and residents.

He regularly works alongside City Staff and The Chamber of Commerce and in 2016 he was honored at the Chamber’s annual dinner for his advocacy work on behalf of the small business community.

He has also acted as the point person for The City of Santa Monica’s education and outreach efforts on the Minimum Wage ordinance, as a team member with Lee Andrews Group. In this initiative, he worked directly with City Staff to orchestrate programming that educated and advised all businesses in Santa Monica on how to be compliant with The City’s laws.

Prior to this, he founded the Santa Monica Restaurant Coalition (SMNRC.net) in 2015 after working with its Los Angles counterpart (NRC.la) and was instrumental in the crafting of the Santa Monica Minimum Wage Ordinance of 2016 as an advocate and lobbyist for the hospitality industry. He worked directly with The City of Santa Monica and counterparts in organized labor to reach critical compromises on hotly contested issues, including service charges, surcharges, and paid sick leave.

Hunter recently completed his term as President of the California Restaurant Association’s L.A. Chapter, and is a regular speaker at seminars in Southern California covering issues specific to the hospitality industry. He is considered a thought leader in Alternative Compensation Models (A.C.M.’s) and is regularly called upon for advice and practical insight on the topic, both culturally and legally speaking.

Hunter is often called upon to assist struggling restaurants, cafes, and nightlife destinations reposition and restructure themselves, and to mitigate operational exposure. He has also been tapped by several emerging technology companies to work on applications and systems unique to the hospitality industry, having worked with corporate brands and independent operations.

Also, he has a killer beard.

I started out in this field pre-digital as a medium format commercial photography studio shooting products, artists, events...

I got into doing exhibit board graphic presentation layouts for law firms O'Melveny & Myers, Wyman, Bautzer etc. where I incorporated, old school roots of archival preservation, Gutenberg typography deciplines: tracking, kerning, leading etc., rub on transfer lettering and copy camera techiques... It was a good solid foundation and natural progression into digital world as technologu and computer programs emerged with pallettes and layers and color control...

I road the dot com first wave as head of graphics departments and lead designer roles like Lead Designer at Clear Channel Interactive creating radio station web sites and flash animation and for MGM Resorts entertainment and hospitality email blasts and banner ads.

I became proficient at hand coding HTML and CSS for prototyping and meeting the back end guys half way primarily but I really grew to appreciate and incorporate all one can do with css alone.

I was teaching Photoshop and HTML before there were classes and have been custom coding HTML5/CSS3 responsive to the pixel tweeks with each device debut nedding adjustments.

I grew up in Beverly Hills and spent several lifetimes in West Los Angeles and surrounding Southern California beach communities the main one being Ocean Park and as a Samohi Grad.

I love editing video within After Effects and hoping for opportunity to be on cool kintetic visuals.

Thanks for looking.
